Bands on Parade in Warwick
The relationship between our two towns is rooted in the duty of remembrance. On June 7th 1944 soldiers of the Royal Warwickshire Regiment lost their lives during the Battle of Lebisey Wood on the outskirts of what was then the village of Hérouville-Saint-Clair – now a city just outside Caen in Normandy.
We celebrated the 1st Anniversary of our friendship last weekend. Their Brass Band joined our Core of Drums and Community Band in celebrating with music throughout Warwick.
As a Twinning Association we believe music builds an intercultural bond and we would love it if any of you would be interested in working together to arrange something similar.
In the words of our Mayor:
“It is a real honour for Warwick to welcome our friends from Hérouville-Saint-Clair, our cherished friendship town. This partnership is built on shared values, mutual respect, and a genuine warmth that has grown stronger over time. Events like this remind us that such friendships are not just symbolic – they are living, breathing relationships, nurtured through moments exactly like this one.
Music has a unique power. It speaks where words sometimes cannot. It brings people together, creates joy, and reminds us of our shared humanity. Whether played in Warwick or Hérouville-Saint-Clair, the notes carry the same emotion, the same energy, and the same spirit of community.”
Hérouville have just set up their own Twinning Association and as much as we work with the Councils it is obviously much easier to work with other associations as well, if possible. We already have very good connections in Saumur although not officially an association.
